Configuring Apple Mail
Updated Thursday, September 10, 2020
Assumptions
In this short guide, we make a few assumptions:
- Your domain is configured correctly and active in the Migadu administration panel
- Your mailbox is active and it may be accessed via our webmail .
- You are using recent version of MacOS with Apple Mail installed.
Add Mail Account
Launch the Mail application on your computer.
From the top menu bar, please select Mail > Add Account…. This will bring up the wizard for configuring a new mail account.
Select the option Other Mail Account… and then Continue.
Now enter the full mailbox email address you have hosted Migadu, along with its password. The name you enter now will be shown next to your email address to your recipients. You can always change it later from the Apple Mail settings. Click on Sign In now.
Apple Mail will attempt to detect settings automatically and will fail to do so. Ignore the red error message. Make sure the Account Type is set to IMAP and server settings are as below.
- Incoming Mail Server is imap.migadu.com
- Outgoing Mail Server is smtp.migadu.com
No ports or security settings are required as Apple Mail will sense the right ones. Click on Sign In now.
The setup is complete now. Apple Mail will now ask you to which apps you want your account linked. The Mail app should obviously be selected. If you choose to use the Notes app with your mailbox, please remember the saved notes will be kept into an own IMAP folder named Notes. Apple Mail will hide this folder from you, while other email clients will not.
